Look around on the net and the problem is there with Steam totally disregarding these specific settings. Without my permission, despite whatever settings I had in place. But despite me specifically setting Steam NOT to update the game, Steam keeps on doing whatever it damn well pleases regardless of the settings I made.Īfter MANY attempts of setting the options in Steam for Oblivion GOTY, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc., the end result was the same: I can play for a short bit but the game CTDs and I get the notice that Steam updated the game. The reason for this is that Steam kept on "patching" the game to vanilla standards and did not like the mods I had installed. After install / patching was done, I used the Steam option to prevent the game from updating. I uninstalled completely, deleted old files, and had Steam reinstall the game again. I kept on getting notification that Steam updated Oblivion GOTY version. Then after a while freezeups and CTDs started occuring. I've installed various mods: Hi-res textures, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Mart's Monster Mod, HGEC, etc.Īfter installing all the mods, the game did work fine. Simply put, Steam hates mods, at least for that game. However, I did try Oblivion with Steam, and I do have some huge problems with that combination.
